Red, White and Blue Party Dishes to celebrate July 4th

The 4th of July means outdoor activities, so here are two light, quick and easy items to bring to your barbeque, cookout, or fireworks celebration. Fruit is a light, refreshing choice on a hot July night.

Red, White and Blue Fruit Salad

2 16oz. containers of strawberries, chopped bite sized

1 pint container of blueberries

2 Gala apples, chopped bite sized

2 T honey

1/2 of one 3.4 oz package of Instant Vanilla Pudding mix

Wash and chop all fruit, add pudding mix (1/4 to 1/2 package only!) and toss until all fruit is coated.  Drizzle with honey, toss again.  Chill and serve - the pudding mix makes a light vanilla flavored sauce that takes this red, white and blue fruit salad to a new level. 

And to wash it down, 

Homemade Summer Sangria

6 navel oranges

1 (750 ml) bottle of Chardonnay

1 (750 ml) bottle of Merlot

1 cup club soda

1/4 cup honey

16 oz. strawberries, sliced

1 pint raspberries

1 small Gala apple, chopped bite sized

Mix wines, club soda and honey first, then add fruit.  Stir and chill.
